There will not be a workout this Saturday due to the San Diego Highland Games (http://www.sdhighlandgames.org/). This is a fun little event in Vista, CA. Try to come out if you can make it.

For those who don't check the online calendar, please note that there are Highland Games this weekend so there will not be a Saturday workout. We will be back to our regular schedule on Monday the 23rd. (Yes, we will have a workout on Memorial Day.)
REMINDER! There is no workout tonight (Monday). Tomorrow we'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Friday Tatiana and Kurt did Grace. Tatiana finished in 7:17 with 95# and Kurt finished in 8:10 with 135#. They both did the workout as Rxd.
I've seen a number of comments over the years about whether Grace is supposed to be power cleans or full (squat) cleans. Coach has made it clear on a number of occasions that, unless noted otherwise, the CrossFit WOD clean is a full or squat clean. The only acceptable alternative is to do a power clean followed by a front squat. There is no such thing as doing cleans "Grace style".
Tonight's workout was "User's choice". The exercises were push-ups, sit-ups and box-jumps, each participant had to decide how many reps and rounds they were going to do.
Tatiana did 21, 15, 9 rep rounds of the 3 exercises in 7:10
Kurt did 2 rounds of 50 reps of each exercise in 13:38
Nick did 3 rounds of 15 push-ups, 10 sit-ups and 5 box-jumps in 5:32. On a 42" box!
Please note that there won't be a workout on Monday the 11th, there is a special event that evening that a few of us will be going to. I was asked not to post any details, but if you're interested in going, please contact me and I'll be happy to give you the details.
I've added a new page for links and information related to Highland Athletics. I'll occasionally update it with info related to throwing or upcoming games. If you are interested in learning more about Highland Athletics (or Scottish Games), please contact me.
I've added a few photos from the Pomona Irish Festival to the Highland Games album. As expected, there was a rather small turnout but it was a lot of fun.
For tomorrow's morning workout I'll be opening at 8:00AM, but the garage will still be open till 9:30 so don't worry if you're going to be here at the normal 8:30 start time.
After the morning workout, a few of us are going to a nearby throwing practice (Highland Games throwing). Let me know if you're interested and I'll pass along the particulars to you.
Coming up in May is ScotsFest. This will be one of the bigger Highland Games in Southern California. Keep an eye on the ScotsFest website http://www.scotsfest.com/athletics.htm, and the SAAA website http://www.saaa-net.org/ for more details. A special note to any ladies that are interested in throwing, I have been asked to draft coercerecruit as many lady throwers to these games as I can get. I have been told that if there are at least 4 new (or nearly new) women entered that we will have a women's novice class, which means that you'll be competing between yourselves. I'll also be having several throwing practices between now and then so you can get familiar with the events. Please contact me if you, or any ladies that you know are interested.
Please note the following schedule changes;
No Saturday workout this week due to Highland Games in Pomona. If you have any interest in throwing this is a great opportunity since it is likely to have a small turnout.
Starting next week the weekly schedule has changed. The garage will be open for workouts from 6:00PM to 7:30PM. Please try to arrive by 6:30 so there is enough time to get to everything.
A couple of quick announcements.
1) There will not be a 6:30 workout this Friday, the 27th. We will still have the 5:30 workout as usual.
2) The Saturday workout on March 7th will also be canceled due to the Highland Games in Pomona (http://www2.la-irishfair.com/)
3) If you want to compete at the Highland Games, please let me know ASAP so I can get you on the gate list. I don't know if there will be a chance to pre-register or not, we might be signing up on the field.
Today we did a scaled version of an old PainStorm called "Over Your Head And Far Away"
The workout opened and closed with a 400 M run, in between you had to put 50 times your body weight from the ground to overhead.
I also just heard that there is a "go-ahead" for Scottish Games at the up coming Irish Festival http://www2.la-irishfair.com/. This will be at the Pomona Fairgrounds on the weekend of March 7th and 8th. I'll send out more info as I hear it.
I finally uploaded the photos from the Highland Games last weekend. Please check out the Highland Games photo album for the new photos. Vicky and Tatiana both did quite well and the weather was much better than expected.
Of course, anytime a CrossFitter gets their hands on something heavy they have to see what they can do with it. After the competition, Vicky and Tatiana demonstrated how to overhead squat a caber.
